The paper gives the results of investigations, which suggest that young women with estro-gen deficiency and hypertension show a certain association between body mass index (BMI) and 24-hour monitoring readings, such as an elevation in systolic and diastolic blood pressure (BP) at different times of the day, the high magnitude and rate of morning surge in BP with a higher pres-sure-induced load as BMI increases. The high correlation of BMI and the power of LF waves that characterize the sympathetic portion of the spectrum may be regarded as evidence for a pathoge-netic relationship between BMI and the degree of sympathetic nervous system activity.
